Quito, November 5 (EFE). – The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador has declared this Sunday the victory of the businessman Daniel Noboa in the second round of the presidential elections (electoral elections), which took place on October 15 and whose results have not yet been announced. have been disputed and are no longer accepting claims.
“Once the numerical results of the second round of early elections in 2023 are known and the certification that there are no outstanding claims to be resolved,” the CNE plenary session approved the award of the presidency to Daniel Noboa of the National Democratic Action Alliance (ADN). , the organization reported in a statement.
There is “no longer any legal remedy” against this designation, as set out in the Code of Democracy, the electoral law that governs the country, the source added.
With 51.83% of the vote, Noboa defeated Luisa González in the runoff (48.17%) of the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement, led by former progressive President Rafael Correa from his asylum in Belgium.
The CNE plenary session also reported that it approved the allocation of the 137 seats – between national legislatures and foreign jurisdictions – that will make up the National Assembly (Parliament), whose next legislative session begins on November 15.
“Once this phase is completed, the credentials will be handed over to the elected authorities on the dates set by the electoral body,” the CNE statement concludes.
Next December 1 is the tentative date for the inauguration of Noboa, who will have to rule until May 24, 2025, when the term of office of the country’s current president, the conservative Guillermo Lasso, who dissolved and prorogued parliament last May, ends called for new elections.
In his short year and a half in office, Noboa, who has not ruled out re-election in 2025, will have to deal with the crisis of insecurity and violence, economic problems and social discontent that he inherited from the Lasso government.
