The story of the elephant that killed an elderly woman in India and attended her funeral, only to cause panic and trample on the victim’s corpse, has even more details. More detailed reports said the animal brought mates into the lady’s village, trampled on her home, and killed goats she kept.
More details were provided by the Times of India newspaper. According to the report, the elephant was not content with trampling the victim’s body during the funeral.
Shortly after entering the cremation of the victim’s own body, which was being carried out in the village where she lives, the elephant roared, inciting about 10 members of its herd.
The group of elephants destroyed the old woman’s house and two other houses. And also trampled and killed a small herd of goats she was keeping.
Only at that moment when the residents and the guests of the wake took shelter in a nearby place the elephant, still angry, trampled on the body of the lady.
Shocking testimonies said the body was “crushed” and “destroyed.”
Kanak News TV Network said residents fled in fear of death but were not injured or attacked by pachyderms.
After venting their anger for a few moments, the elephants returned to a nearby forest and the burial was completed.
A possible reason for the attack is not yet known, although the Odisha region is a flashpoint of tensions between humans and elephants due to miners’ prospecting for mineral resources.
