The Emerging Music Festival 2023 in 6 shows not to be missed

the 21ste The edition of the Emerging Music Festival in Abitibi-Témiscamingue is on our doorstep! see who Marilyne Lacombe, Program Director, points out six key musical highlights!

While the team at the popular event has recently been almost completely renewed, many eyes have turned to the program for the 21st edition, which will take place from August 31st to September 3rd. Are we moving towards a confirmation of the festival’s identity, or rather towards a wind of change?

“A little bit of both,” replies Marilyne Lacombe. The idea was to create freshness with an outstanding program. However, this orientation was already part of FME’s DNA. The torch is over and we move on with discovery in mind!”

Between big names like Karkwa, Les Louanges, FouKi, Imposs and Milk & Bone, there are also plenty of artists to explore. Marilyne Lacombe accompanies us along the way with some good advice: “The goal of FME is not necessarily to see the artists we’ve been listening to all year, but rather to discover those we’ll be listening to next year!”

6 suggestions from the program director

MystMilano

The queer artist, whose debut album Shapeshyfter was on the Polaris 2022 longlist, caught Marilyne Lacombe’s eye. “Probably the best hip hop surprise of the year! I’m very excited to be able to showcase this Toronto talent at a festival in Quebec. »

The artist we met at Duchess Says and PYPY is back with a solo project. “A totally exploded mix of synth-pop, electronic music and immersive visuals, all centered around a concept of table manners!”

Tess Parks

Nice recording from the program director! “I’ve been trying to book her since 2016! She is a Canadian psychedelic rock artist who has had a great career in Europe. A large piece that we can see in the first part of Karkwa. It will be a unique evening!”

September 2nd at 9pm at the Paramount

Jonathan Bree

“Certainly one of the artists we brought furthest in the history of the festival! Jonathan Bree from New Zealand comes to us with a slightly vintage synth-pop-electronic universe, dancers, costumes… Even if he’s not very well known here, he’s a musical legend!

September 2nd at 8pm on the Videotron stage

Elisapie

The Inuk artist will premiere his new album of Inuktitut covers at FME. “Definitely a must! Elisapie will revisit great classics that everyone in Inuktitut knows, from Blondie to Metallica to the Rolling Stones… It could be something really special.”

September 1st at 10pm at the Paramount

Ammar 808

Do you want to dance? The program director suggests taking a walk around Ammar 808 at Electro Night. “Brussels-based Tunisian DJ Ammar 808 takes inspiration from traditional music and offers a kind of therapeutic exorcism through electronic music.” It promises!
