A discussion as part of European Union Day took place this Thursday on the 39th. Havana International Fair, an event attended by ambassadors from countries such as Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic and others, as well as the Charge d’Affaires of the EU, Ms. Mercedes Rodríguez Sarro.
The event was organized by the European Union Delegation in collaboration with the French Development Agency.
In particular, Rodríguez Sarro recalled that the European regional organization currently consists of 27 Member States, stressing that the EU’s trade and investment policy is special because it covers goods and services, public tenders, foreign investments and intellectual property.
He highlighted the benefits as access to markets and resources, sustainable economic growth and employment, strengthened associations, promotion of sustainability and defense of the values and interests of member states.
The official said that the EU’s trade policy is interesting for Cuba, which is based on three pillars: open, sustainable and assertive. In his opinion, many Member States have reached an important level of economic, social development and well-being of their populations, an experience that the EU would like to share with Cuba so that it can move forward in a similar development model. “We know that there are many models, but we believe ours is the one that can provide the greatest welfare to citizens,” he said.
The Chargé d’Affaires also assured that the EU Cooperation Delegation in Cuba maintains regular meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, but “we believe that there are still areas where we can further advance and develop the regulatory structure to support them “We will help all companies and investors and help Cuba to decisively advance the economic transformation and the production model that they have communicated to us in these days at FIHAV,” he emphasized.
