The European Union (EU) gave the green light this Thursday (14) for Ukraine to join the economic bloc. At a meeting in Brussels, Belgium, leaders agreed to begin negotiations on the Eastern European country's accession. The decision is considered historic.

Now Kiev can present its candidacy. However, the process can take years. This was no cause for concern for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who celebrated the decision on social media.

The European Union gave the green light for Ukraine to join on the condition that the country begins the accession process as soon as the war against Russia ends.
