The Nothing Phone Glyph (1): What sets it apart from other smartphones
The Glyph is located on the back of the smartphone: This is an LED module that can light up at certain times. Its decidedly futuristic shape makes it a smartphone that stands out from the rest. Especially since the back is supposed to be “transparent” by showing (not completely) the components of the device. It can light up in different ways when you receive notifications. A return to the notification LED found on certain smartphones a few years ago. The Glyph will gradually fill up as you charge the smartphone.
The Nothing Phone (1) also has a simple interface with NothingOS 2.0, based on Android 13. If the overlay is clear and refined, it offers its own style, futuristic like the design of the smartphone. We are entitled to some widgets on the home and lock screen that provide useful features. The smartphone will be updated to a maximum of Android 15 and will have three more years of security patches.
A solid model, both in terms of screen and performance
On the screen side, the Nothing Phone (1) offers a beautiful 6.55-inch Oled panel in Full HD+ and with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. At relatively low brightness, the colors are pretty and true to life. Of course, you shouldn’t be disappointed with its screen, especially for less than 300 euros.
In terms of performance, this model features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ chip paired with 8GB of RAM. Applications start quickly and you can play 3D video games at 60 FPS, provided you lower the graphics settings for the most demanding ones. Everything is powered by a 4500mAh battery that can last a full day or even a day and a half. The charging process of this mid-range smartphone is a maximum of 33W, which is relatively slow.
Finally, on the photo side there are three photo sensors: a main sensor with 50 Mpx, an ultra wide-angle sensor with 50 Mpx and a selfie sensor. The results are generally satisfactory, especially when it comes to HDR and portrait mode. In addition, the Nothing Phone (1) has a small advantage in photography: its Glyph. Full lighting allows you to illuminate an object or even a scene, gaining some brightness.
