According to a note published on the official website of this international organization on Thursday, FAO Director General Qu Dongyu pointed out at the conclusion of the event, which has been taking place since September 25, that the development of livestock “…” an indicator of a better life” and “essential to the well-being of people and the planet.”
In this sense, Qu recognized the difficulty of the task, called on all parties to translate his words into concrete actions, and assured that “governments, farmers, researchers, civil society and the private sector and all partners should go hand in hand.” Hand in hand, to drive change at all levels.”
More than 700 delegates took part in this forum, including 27 ministers or senior government officials, more than 100 youth representatives, as well as researchers and experts from multilateral organizations.
The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness of the contribution of animal production to the implementation of this strategic framework to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at global, regional and national levels.
It also served to exchange information and knowledge on the strategic direction and technical advances in sustainable livestock production, as well as to set priorities in mobilizing scientific, technical and financial resources to achieve a sustainable transformation of livestock farming worldwide.
Two general messages emerged from this conference, according to the source. The first related to the awareness that extensive global knowledge of what needs to be done and often how to do it already exists, while the skills to implement it are still insufficient in the works.
Second, it defined that there is no single solution to a sector on which more than 1.7 billion people depend and which takes up more than half of the planet’s land surface, especially areas unsuitable for cultivation.
FAO’s work to promote sustainable livestock production systems is at the intersection of the so-called best four of its strategic framework for the period 2022-2031, which relate to better production, better nutrition, better environment and better lives, according to the document disclosed by the organization Part of the press office.
