Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested for drunk driving just a week before his son's fourth Super Bowl appearance.

The 53-year-old father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was arrested by the Tyler Police Department on at least his third DWI Saturday night in Texas.

He is being held on a $10,000 bond. Mahomes Sr., a 6-foot-2 former professional baseball player, is currently in custody at the Smith County Jail.

The Chiefs – and his NFL legend son – are currently preparing for their Super Bowl showdown against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11 in Las Vegas.

According to booking records, Mahomes Sr. has been arrested for drunk driving a total of six times – twice in 2012, twice in 2018, once in 2019 and now once in 2024.

He pleaded guilty to his DWI charge in 2018 and was sentenced to 40 days in county jail on weekends in 2019 and 2020.

After two DWI convictions in Texas, the third DWI offense is classified as a third-degree felony. The maximum fine is $10,000 and the maximum sentence is 10 years in a Texas Department of Corrections prison.

As of Sunday afternoon, it was unclear whether Mahomes Sr. had posted bail.

This is not the Mahomes family's first run-in with the law. The Chiefs quarterback's younger brother, Jackson, was arrested on a warrant for aggravated sexual assault and booked into a Kansas prison in 2023.

In January this year, three charges of serious sexual violence were dropped. A fourth charge — assault — remains, and Jackson Mahomes pleaded not guilty to that charge.

Jackson Mahomes' attorney, Brandan Davies, said in a statement that his client “did nothing wrong.” “We had every confidence that the truth would eventually come out.”

The original indictment accused Jackson Mahomes, a 23-year-old social media influencer, of crimes that occurred on February 25 at Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.

Investigators said Mahomes pushed a waiter who was trying to get into a room where he was staying with restaurant owner Aspen Vaughn.

After the waiter left, Mahomes grabbed Vaughn by the neck and forcibly kissed her three times without her consent, prosecutors allege.

Just days before his arrest, Mahomes Sr. defended his quarterback son after he was criticized online for his physique.

“He’s in the gym all the time,” the former MLB pitcher, who played with the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates, among others, told CNN. “He trains three times a week.

“He’s just unlucky that he got that from me.” It’s in his DNA. We don't have the muscles like DK Metcalf and some of the guys who are built like bricks and statues.

“We just got this natural dad bod, but hey, we represent.”

Asked what he thought of the excitement surrounding the Chiefs and Taylor Swift, with whom he once shared a suite before next week's Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Mahomes Sr. said: “Well, it's exciting.”

“I mean, Taylor was always very, very nice and pleasant to me.

“Actually, I was only in the box with her once. “I went and saw her after games and things like that.

“But she was always friendly. But the buzz around the Chiefs is real, man. It is real. I mean, you can always go back to the Super Bowl as many times as before… and it's not just Patrick, it's the entire team, you know?

“Every sports team… their goal is to get to the last game and they've been fortunate enough to come back four times now and hopefully we can finish well this time.”
