Could the Anaheim Ducks be tempted to take on William Nylander from the Toronto Maple Leafs?
NHL Network analyst Mike Rupp believes the California team is the highest-ranked team in the National Hockey League to trade with Toronto.
“The Maple Leafs haven’t had a high draft pick in a few years. “The Ducks should take the opportunity to make an offer,” Rupp said Monday night.
Because Auston Matthews was selected first overall in 2016, the Maple Leafs picked a top 15 spot only once in the first round. In 2020, her choice fell on Rodion Amirov, who died of a brain tumor last week.
“Nylander is one of the most underrated players in the league. He would fit perfectly into the Ducks lineup,” Rupp continued, casually mentioning that the Zegras, Carlsson, Fantilli and Terry would benefit from the experience of a Nylander.
According to the analyst, the Maple Leafs will also find common ground to extend Matthews’ contract, which would push Nylander toward the exit.
Both players end the last year of their contracts. The American will earn $11.6 million this season while the Swede will earn $6.9 million.
