The film adaptation of Rua best-selling novel by Kim Thúy, this week became the sixth Quebec film to surpass the million-dollar mark at the box office in 2023.
Written by Jacques Davidts and directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud, the film managed to reach this symbolic milestone in less than three weeks on screen. Ru is still being screened in over 60 cinemas across the province.
“Quebec cinema ends 2023 in the most beautiful way with the great success of Ru! This is the sixth Quebec film to break the million mark this year. We have to go back more than ten years, to 2011, to find so many of these beloved Quebec films,” said Immina Films president Patrick Roy in a press release Thursday morning.
Time for a Summer, My Mother's Men, Testament, Katak, the Brave Beluga and Simple Like Sylvain are the five other Quebec films that grossed more than $1 million at the box office in 2023.
