The film “Ru” is nearing $2 million at the box office

Almost two months after the cinema release Ru continues to attract audiences to cinemas. Charles-Olivier Michaud's film adaptation of Kim Thúy's best-selling novel is now approaching the $2 million mark at the box office.

So far, “Ru” has earned $1.75 million at the Quebec box office, the film's distributor, Immina Films, announced Friday.

The feature film is still being shown across the province. Director Charles-Olivier Michaud, young actress Chloé Djandji and author Kim Thúy will also be at Cinéma Beaubien for a question and answer session on Tuesday evening following the screening at 6 p.m.

Ru will also be available in English Canada from January 26th.

Ru's success during the holiday season capped a very lucrative 2023 box office year for Quebec cinema. For the first time since 2011, no less than six Quebec films managed to cross the symbolic million-dollar milestone at the box office, namely Le temps d'un été, Testament, Les hommes de ma Mère, Ru, Katak le brave beluga and Just like Sylvain.
