The final episodes of “Yellowstone” will be postponed to November 2024, the spin-offs “1944” and “2024” will be ordered – Variety

The final episodes of “Yellowstone” are now scheduled to air in November 2024.

Additionally, Paramount has greenlit two new spin-off series – “1944” and a contemporary series, currently titled “2024.” Like the flagship show, the new shows are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

In May, it was announced that Taylor Sheridan’s megahit Paramount Network series Yellowstone would end with its fifth season. Paramount had previously announced that the fifth season would be split into two parts. The first eight episodes aired from November 2022 to January 2023. Due to the writers’ strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike, the series has not been able to go into production since. The writers’ strike was resolved in September, while the actors’ strike is still ongoing.

“In five years, we’ve grown ‘Yellowstone’ from a successful US cable show with five million viewers to a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple expansions – and we’re just getting started,” said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “Following the success of ‘1883’ and ‘1923’, our new planned spin-offs ‘1944’ and ‘2024’ will take audiences on an exciting, new and unexpected journey, with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of ‘1883’ and ‘1923’ has become the franchise and helped make it a global cultural phenomenon – thanks to creative mastermind Taylor Sheridan.”

In December, it was reported that “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner would be leaving the series in the fifth season, reportedly due to his desire to focus on the epic two-part western film “Horizon,” seriously affecting his availability to film “Yellowstone.” The first part of the film is scheduled to be released in June 2024, with part two following in August.

“Yellowstone,” which follows the Dutton family and their sprawling cattle ranch in Montana, has proven to be one of the most popular shows on television. The premiere of the first half of season five attracted an incredible 17 million viewers.

“1944” is the latest in a series of “Yellowstone” prequels created by Sheridan as part of his extensive overall deal for Paramount. He previously released both “1883” and “1923” on Paramount+, with each series exploring the Duttons’ lives in the titular year.

There are no plot details available for “2024,” except that it will likely begin airing after the end of “Yellowstone.” According to a person with knowledge of the series, there will be new cast members and locations, as well as some crossover characters. With the announcement that the flagship show would end with Season 5, Paramount had already announced the new contemporary series set in the “Yellowstone” world, which was originally scheduled to begin airing in December this year. It was also previously reported that Matthew McConaughey was in talks to star in the series.

Sheridan also has the shows “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King,” “Special Ops: Lioness,” “Land Man” and “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” at Paramount+, with several more in development.

“Yellowstone” was co-created by Sheridan and John Linson. Executive producers include John Linson, Art Linson, Sheridan, Costner, Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay and Christina Voros. Both “Yellowstone” and the new sequel are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

“The global success of ‘Yellowstone’ continues to excite and excite us at 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch. “This has been an exciting journey with our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios and we can’t wait to bring ‘1944’ and ‘2024’ to audiences everywhere,” said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios.
