The first word that the NFL free agent was agreeing to terms with the new team came moments after the negotiation window opened at noon on Monday, and news of upcoming deals continued to roll in throughout the rest of the day.
Defenseman Alex Kappa explained this initial move as he agreed to leave the Bucks for a four-year contract with the Bengals. Kappa was on the PFT’s list of the league’s top 100 free agents – that list rose to 102 after Za’Darius Smith and Jarvis Landry posted on Monday – and had plenty of company for the rest of the day.
Whether it’s franchise tags, deals with current teams, or agreements with new ones, 39 players from our original roster are now attached to teams for the 2022 season. This includes defenseman JC Jackson, who was the top player on our list to avoid the franchise tag and who will move from New England to the Chargers.
These numbers include six of the top 10 players and 12 of the top 25. Tackle Terron Armstead, linebacker Von Miller, winger Chandler Jones and linebacker Bobby Wagner are loose players in the top 10.
None of the new team deals could be made official until Wednesday, with the exception of quarterback Roger Suffold’s deal with the Bills. Suffold was released by the Titans last week, making him eligible to sign before the start of the league’s new year. Tuesday promises to close more deals, which will reduce the number of top free agents available for the official signing period.
