US President Joe Biden, whose wife Jill tested positive for COVID-19, will wear a mask as a precaution even though he took a new test on Tuesday that came back negative, the White House announced.

The 80-year-old head of state, who was also classified as negative on Monday, has “no symptoms,” said presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
The First Lady has been infected with COVID-19 but is only showing mild symptoms of the disease.

However, Joe Biden was with his wife on Monday and “he will wear the mask when he is indoors and around people,” in accordance with current health regulations, the spokesman added. “The President will remove his mask when adequate distance separates him from others indoors and outdoors.”
Ms. Jean-Pierre gave no details on whether the president would wear a mask at the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi or what plans the White House might have if Joe Biden tests positive before or during the trip.

Jill Biden, 72, has “only mild symptoms,” according to her office. She remains at the couple’s private home in Delaware (East).
She had already tested positive for COVID-19 a year ago.
The United States has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks.
