While Season 1 of The Flight Attendant followed the same route as Chris Bohjalian’s novel of the same name, Season 2 of the HBO Max dramedy ventures into new territory.
Gone are the cold and congested streets of NYC, replaced by the sunny and (even more) congested streets of Los Angeles. And while Season 1 dealt with Cassie’s relationship with her father, Season 2 will reunite with her estranged mother, played by none other than Sharon Stone.
But not everything has changed. Cassie still flies around the world as a flight attendant. Only now does she also serve as a civilian asset for the CIA, keeping an eye on the agency’s tracks. But will a mission in Berlin ruin her new life in the City of Angels? Read on for a summary of Seeing Double.

CLEAR SKIES AHEAD? | Cassie now lives in Los Angeles and is in control of her life. She’s got a house (with throw pillows!), a sturdy, sexy boyfriend named Marco (Star Trek: Picard’s Santiago Cabrera), and has been sober for almost a year thanks to her sponsor Brenda (The Expanse’s Shohreh Aghdashloo). Additionally, she works for the spy agency with her mysterious henchman Benjamin (Pitchs Mo McRae), giving her the excitement that was lost when she gave up alcohol.
Her latest mission takes her to Berlin, where she is simply supposed to observe and photograph a man in a hotel – nothing more. However, after a brief run-in with co-worker Shane (who dragged her into the spy business), things start to go wrong. Cassie’s rival, Jada, is the flight’s primary companion, and she doesn’t buy into Cassie’s new no-nonsense attitude of making better decisions. Then she almost blows her CIA cover with her new colleague Grace (Feel Goods Mae Martin).
WELCOME TO BERLIN | Personal drama and such near misses are the least of Cassie’s worries. Arriving at a German hotel, she spots her mark, but is interrupted by a seemingly random couple who claim to have been on their flight. However, the two are not as innocent as they seem as they clone Cassie’s phone without her realizing. She then disobeys Benjamin’s orders and interacts with her mark at the bar, discovering that he too is an alcoholic and works as a courier.
Of course, Cassie follows the mystery man across Berlin to his pickup point, where he picks up a Manila envelope. Cassie then tracks him to another hotel and invents a bird’s eye view of the room he enters herself. There, she watches as he and a mysterious blonde woman (who conspicuously has the same back tattoo as our over-the-top flight attendant!) engage in some hot and intense BDSM.
Cassie isn’t the only voyeur in town tonight. Directly above Courier and Blonde Lady’s room is a group of men who appear to be overhearing their activities. Cassie tries desperately to take photos of everything, but is spotted by the men in the upper room, who quickly close their curtains to hide her surgery. The courier then gives Blonde Lady the envelope he picked up earlier and trades it for a silver briefcase.
Cassie rushes out to follow Courier, but is interrupted by a call from Megan, who appears to be hiding in some sort of pub. She asks Cassie if she got a key in the mail, but has to hang up before Cassie can answer. Cassie follows Courier to his car, which explodes as soon as he gets in, throwing Cassie to the ground!
MIND GAMES | Cassie regains consciousness at the hotel, but things are not as they should be. The lobby is empty and gorgeous. Cassie approaches the bar only to find a true council of Cassies sitting around the fire exchanging stories. While two of the four faces are hidden, teenage girl Cassie and the pre-season 1 Cassie are present, complete with the gold dress she wore the night she met the hapless Alex.
Before she can register what’s going on, Cassie wakes up at the scene of the exploded car and sees Blonde Lady strutting by. Cassie finds her way back to her room, which is oddly locked. A friendly housekeeper lets Cassie in, where she gets a call from Benjamin. But before she can answer, she is transported back to the gorgeous lobby. “What were you thinking? You were going to find another hot dead guy here?” Gold Dress asks Cassie, welcoming her back into her guilt (previously occupied by Alex in Season 1). Gold Dress Cassie questions her counterpart’s efforts to “To make better decisions,” points out that her decisions in Berlin weren’t exactly amazing, and urges her to take some of the heat with a cocktail.
Cassie takes Benjamin’s call but doesn’t tell him that she followed Courier and was at the scene of the explosion. She rushes to catch her flight, but discovers that someone has stolen her luggage and checked out under her name.
FAMILIAR FACES | On the plane back to Los Angeles, Cassie and Grace grow closer, but the former’s calm is disturbed when one of the men from the hotel’s surveillance room — who happens to have a recognizable milky eye — ending up on their flight under the name of Jim Jones. The two meet again upon landing, but Cassie manages to lose him at the airport.
Finally back in Los Angeles, Cassie is greeted by Max and Annie, who are in town for Annie’s job interview, allowing Annie to meet Max’s parents for the first time. As the friends hug, Cassie notices the massive rock on Annie’s hand and freaks out. Of course, in her stoic way, Annie refuses to say the word “engaged,” instead arguing in attorney-speak that she’s wearing it on “this finger because it only fits on that finger, and Max and I are in constant discussions about the future.” and what that ring means technically.”
The reunion is interrupted by the CIA calling Cassie to the field office. There she meets Benjamin, who tells her that they know she was at the scene of the blast and will likely be fired for lying. However, lead agent Dot Karlson (Subburgatory’s Cheryl Hines) defends Cassie’s behavior, revealing that Courier was a CIA informant and that the explosion was caused by a “gas leak.” Cassie tries to tell her about the men in the room and the tattoo on the blonde lady, but Agent Karlson won’t let her.
As Cassie exits the CIA building, she spots Milky Eye, but manages to dodge him again. Back at her house, she eventually calls Megan back, but gets no answer. Max and Annie are suspicious of Cassie’s behavior and try to get the truth out, but Cassie is able to deflect attention by blaming the explosion in Berlin.
Cassie’s missing luggage is finally delivered. While the bag is the same, it’s full of items that don’t belong to her, including an Imperial Atlantic flight attendant uniform, a ViewMaster, and a bloodied blonde wig, leading Cassie to conclude that someone is impersonating her!
