The Foreign Minister begins his tour of the Balkans

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated in a press release that Albares will convey Spain’s renewed interest in the region, the will to support them in their European accession and, in particular, will present to them the broad outlines of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union (EU) in the Balkans.

In Serbia, his first stop on the tour, the head of diplomacy from Madrid will meet the Minister for European Integration, Tanja Miscevic, with whom he will sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the EU accession process.

From Belgrade he will travel to Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) tomorrow, Thursday, where he will hold various institutional meetings.

The last leg of the trip will take place on Friday 14th in Tirana (Albania), where the Foreign Minister will sign the same cooperation agreement with his colleague Olta Xhaçka.

Finally, in Skopje, North Macedonia, he will formalize with his counterpart Bujar Osmani the signing of a memorandum of understanding similar to that signed with the three previous countries regarding their future in the EU.

According to the source, Albares will be interested in the ongoing cooperation processes, as well as in perception of the development of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

At the same time, the Foreign Minister will outline the constructive side of Spain regarding the situation in the region, where it supports the work of the representative of the European Union, Miroslav Lajçak, and the search for a definitive and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict.
