The former Mobil gas station from 1925 has been restored

The former Mobil gas station from 1925 has been restored and converted into a beautiful Airbnb – would you book a stay?

For $130 a night you can stay in a 98 year old gas station!

A creative mother-daughter duo transformed a 1925 train station into an enchanting home for Airbnb guests.

Missy Meyer, 58, and her daughter Sarah Mensing, 24, showed off their creativity by transforming an old 1975 Mobil gas station into a sweet home, hosting Airbnb guests for $130 a night could.

From the outside, the building still looks like a gas station – complete with red and white vintage gas pumps advertising Mobilgas and Mobilgas Special.

Inside the building is a home – with a double bedroom, a fully equipped retro-style kitchen, a large living room, an office and a bathroom that is much nicer than the average gas station toilet.

According to WCAX3, Meyer’s father purchased the gas station property in 1998 and turned it into a “little weekend getaway.”

The unique building is located in the tiny town of Peterson, Minnesota, home to fewer than 200 people.

Covering just 0.51 square miles, Peterson is bisected by the Root River portion of the Blufflands State Trail – a popular spot for hikers and cyclists.

The mother-daughter duo turned the 600 square meter property into an Airbnb earlier this year – and they say it was a success.

Guests agree: One visitor called the property a “cute little nook with an interesting history” and another said they enjoyed “the nostalgia of the property being an old gas station.”

Apart from the installation of a shower, the gas station remains in its original form. “We still have the original wood floors, which have oil stains.” “We have the original stove and lighting,” said Mensing (pictured).

Another reviewer said that being at the gas station “really felt like being at Grandma’s.” They said: “What a wonderful place – so much character!” “Small town, main street, peaceful, quiet, great front terrace for drinking, reading and watching the world go by.”

Shawn stayed at the property in 2023 and said, “The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed sitting outside under the canopy while the vintage gas pumps light up at night.”

The Airbnb received a 4.86 five-star rating for cleanliness, communication, location, and check-in system.

Meyer said, “Believe it or not, people came by thinking it was still a gas station.”

“It’s really crazy to think about,” Meyer said. “Every now and then we can get the neighbors to come over and share their stories about what they might remember from buying candy at the gas station.”

Property records show the gas station building at 223 Mill St was listed for sale in 2014 for $52,000 but was removed in 2015.

The Airbnb listing says, “Enjoy a unique stay at this old 1925 Mobil gas station in a quiet little Minnesota town.”

“Outside you’ll find the original gas pumps (stopped at 37 cents!).

“In the station there is a quaint space with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, a queen-sized bed and a living room where you can take a step back to your grandparents’ house.”

“Surrounded by cliffs, you’ll be just two blocks from the Root River bike trails.”
