The FTR makes their decision, wins the AEW World Tag Team Titles

In the main event of tonight’s episode of Dynamite (April 5), The Gunns defended the AEW World Tag Team Titles against FTR. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler vowed to leave AEW if they didn’t win the gold.

The underlying real-world context here is that FTR’s AEW deals reportedly expired in early April, so the outcome of this match would tell us whether they signed a new deal with Tony Khan or moved on to greener pastures.

The finish looked like it had come as FTR hit Austin Gunn Shatter Machine late in the match, but Colten pulled the referee out of the ring to stop it. Colten was looking for a disqualification loss to retain the titles, which would still trigger the stip that FTR must leave AEW. Referee Paul Turner wouldn’t do it.

The Gunns then hit a low blow in front of the referee and sought another disqualification. Turner wanted to say it this time, but Wheeler stopped him at the last second.

The Gunns continued to try to cheat using the tag team titles as a weapon, but Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were undeniable that night. Dax fought his way out of the Gunns finisher, and FTR then pinned the champions with stereo rollups to seal the deal and win the belts.

It looks like FTR has decided to stay with AEW for the long term.
