Has the time come for Ghostface to retire? This is what fans fear. After the loss of the two headliners and the director of the seventh part, the franchise chills has a future that seems more uncertain than ever.
Something has been brewing behind the scenes of the Frissons saga for some time. The first stone fell last November, when the name of actress Melissa Barrera (aka Sam Carpenter in the last two films in the series) was removed from the project due to controversial statements about the Israeli-Palestinian war posted on her social networks.

“We do not tolerate anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, distortion of the Holocaust or anything that crosses the line. Hate speech will be blatantly restricted,” the film’s production house, Spyglass Entertainment, then stated via a press release.
More departures
A few days later, Frissons VII – originally expected on our screens in 2025 – lost its other headliner; Jenna Ortega (Sam Carpenter) left the ship to film the second season of Wednesday, a Netflix series that focuses on the eldest of the Addams family.

Then it was Christopher Landon's turn to kill the project. In December, the director responsible for bringing Ghostface back to our screens confided via his X account – formerly Twitter – that this “dream” contract had turned into a nightmare.
“My heart broke thinking about everyone involved. All of them. But it’s time for me to move on,” he wrote.
What happens to Wes Craven's legacy? Hard to say. When asked about it on the Emmy Awards red carpet, actress Jasmine Savoy Brown told Entertainment Weekly that she “still hasn't received a call” about a seventh installment in the Shivers series.
A glimmer of'Hope, thanks to Neve Campbell
Some fans still choose to remain hopeful. This was further reinforced the day after the BAFTA Awards when we learned that Neve Campbell had said she was “open” to the idea of re-entering the saga… in her own words.

“I know the tide is turning and I can imagine the production wondering how to get out of the storm. “It wouldn’t surprise me to get a call,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I took a strong stand a few years ago and I still don't believe they would have treated me the way they would have if I had been a man. I deserve some recognition for keeping this franchise going for so long,” she added.
In fact, Neve Campbell had refused to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott for the sixth time in 2022 following a salary dispute.
