The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Île Notre-Dame will be closed to cyclists for much of the summer, notably due to work to improve the circuit’s ergonomics.
The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD) specified that the planned work, which is currently “at the tendering stage”, will be carried out in two phases over the summer. Therefore, the track will not be open to athletes from July 10 to September 1, 2023 and then from September 25 to November 24, 2023.
The work will significantly improve the surface quality, in addition to the improved lighting of certain areas of the circuit with LED technology.
“By carrying out this work, we continue to improve the experience and safe coexistence of users and correct the ergonomics of the circuit to comply with International Automobile Federation (FIA) standards,” the SPJD said in a press release, indicating that everything for which should be ready in spring 2024.
Remember that due to the F1 Grand Prix, the circuit will also be closed to users from May 29th to June 24th, 2023.
Until then, athletes can use the route as the bike path, as well as the bike path connecting the South Shore and Parc Jean-Drapeau, are open again for the season.
