Dr. Claire Brown is on a second visit to St. Bonaventure.
Former Good Doctor star Antonia Thomas will reprise her role in two episodes of season 5, which aired later this spring, TVLine has learned.
After four years as surgeon Dr. Brown, Thomas announced last June, just hours before the finale of Season 4, that he would leave ABC’s medical drama. “I think it’s ultimately for me to get to the point where I think we’ve really managed the range of things that Claire may have been through,” Thomas told our sister website Deadline in June. “Now I’m really excited to explore different creative possibilities.”
Despite her early departure, Thomas said she is open to repeating her role in future seasons. “Really for me, if I had more time during the year to be able to film the show and go out and do some of the other things I want to do now, I would do both,” she explained. “It was not an easy decision to leave, so I would like to come back from time to time and say hello … I look forward to it.”
In the same way, executive producer David Shore told TVLine that “we would like to find places to bring her back.” She is such a part of this world and will always be a part of this world, so it will be wonderful to see [Claire] – to bring us history or just to come to the most important moments of people’s lives.
In the finale of season 4, Claire took a position at the rural hospital in Guatemala, where the team of St. Bonaventure had just completed a life-changing mission. After saying goodbye to Sean and others, Dr. Brown joined in on his first procedure as chief surgeon. You can watch Thomas’s previous farewell to the cast and crew below:
