The State Minister for Economic Cooperation of the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance, Semereta Sewasew, and the head of German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Benjamin Tedla Hecker, led the preparatory meeting, which was attended by officials from the African country’s agriculture, education, labor and training and justice departments.
On the Berlin side, representatives of the embassy in Addis Ababa, the Development Bank (KfW) and GIZ were also present, as the local finance ministry announced.
During the meeting, Germany presented priority sector projects in three main areas; peaceful and inclusive societies, transformation of agricultural and food systems, and sustainable economic development, training and employment. The Ethiopian officials thanked the European country’s government for its continued support in line with sector plans and mentioned its priorities for future interventions and potential initiatives.
The meeting ended after both sides agreed to focus on key priority sectors and ensure synergies and coordination between and within ministries, as well as preparing concise presentations and documents for the upcoming bilateral negotiations, the source said.
