The Great British Bake Off has started its 14th series and is once again delighting fans and baking fanatics across the country.
The launch show aired on Tuesday at 7pm and, following the trend of previous series, episodes are then expected to air every Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
With Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith reprising their roles as judges, the new series marks the arrival of vivacious new co-host Alison Hammond alongside fellow presenter Noel Fielding.
Contestants in the new series of The Great British Bake Off include the show’s first deaf baker, as well as a scientist, an accountant and a retired flight attendant.
As contestants compete for the coveted position of star baker and ultimately national treasure, we take a look at the previous winners and how much they’re worth today thanks to lucrative television appearances, cookbook deals and more.
Nadiya Hussain – Series 6

The mother of two has hosted numerous shows since winning season six of Bake Off, including Nadiya’s British Food Adventure, The Chronicles of Nadiya and Nadiya’s Family Favourites.
According to Heart Radio, she is now worth around £3.7 million thanks to her television appearances.
Nadiya has also published several books including Nadiya’s Everyday Baking, Nadiya’s Kitchen and the children’s baking book Bake Me a Story.
In 2016, she was even chosen to bake a cake for the late Queen Elizabeth II to mark her 90th birthday.
Nadiya has also won and been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the 2017 Women in Film and Television Award.
She also writes a monthly column for The Times Magazine, part of the Times’ Saturday supplement, and her recipes have appeared in the BBC’s Good Food magazine, The Telegraph and the Guardian.
In 2020, Nadiya was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to broadcasting and the culinary arts.
Joanne Wheatley – Series 2

Season two winner Joanne Wheatley, 53, is probably one of the most financially successful Bake Off stars of all time.
The mother of three children then founded her own cooking school, where she teaches cake-baking courses. She has written columns, appeared on television and written two cookbooks.
She reportedly earned £75,000 from these lucrative book deals after achieving sales of £500,000 and now lives in Lisbon.
However, she only has over 27,000 followers on Instagram and, according to National World, earns £196.65 per post – the lowest amount earned per post by any previous GBBO winner.
“Bake Off totally changed my life,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it when my books became bestsellers.”
The Essex native’s husband was famously jailed for conspiring with others to conceal, convert and funnel the proceeds of crime – all during her very successful time on the show.
Candice Brown – Series 7
TV success: Candice won Bake Off in 2016 and wrote two cookbooks before baking on ITV’s This Morning and Christmas Kitchen, as well as appearing as a panellist on Loose Women
Candice Brown, 38, won the seventh season of The Great British Bake Off in 2016 and went on to become an author, TV show panelist and a topic of interest in the beauty and fashion world.
Candice has 267,000 followers on Instagram and earns around £1,156.84 per post, National World reports.
She was touted to have received a £1million payday from deals alone after winning the show and is thought to have doubled her earnings since then thanks to a steady stream of cooking and writing gigs.
Brown has published two cookbooks – Comfort and Happy Cooking – and has been a Sunday Times columnist since her Bake Off win, baked on ITV’s This Morning and Christmas Kitchen and appeared as a panellist on Loose Women.
After becoming known for her bold, statement-making lips during her time on the show, Candice was also featured in Hello magazine and tested lipsticks for Heat magazine.
The Bake Off star has also taken part in live baking demonstrations at the Foodies Festival and the Cake and Bake Show.
John Whitte – Series 3

John Whaite, 34, won the third series of Bake Off with a heavenly chiffon cake aged just 23 after dropping out of college to take a chance on GBBO.
Ten years later, Whaite is a respected TV personality, presenter and chef who was a guest on Lorraine from 2013 to 2016.
He has 302,000 followers on his Instagram page and earns a whopping £1,305.46 per post.
Whaite, from Chorley, Lancashire, made history in 2021 when he formed half of Strictly’s first male same-sex couple, heading to the Birmingham ballroom with professional dancer and choreographer Johannes Radebe.
He made it to the final but was beaten by Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice, who took home the win.
Off screen, John enjoys a very successful career as a food writer and has written four cookbooks.
He also opened his own cooking school in 2016 called John Whaite’s Kitchen, which opened in a 400-year-old barn on his family farm in Wrightington, Lancashire.
It offers cooking classes for both groups and individuals, and hosts dinner clubs and private dining experiences.
According to Entertainment Daily, John’s net worth is estimated at £1.5 million thanks to his diverse endeavors.
Edd Kimber – Series 1

Edd Kimber, 38, rose to fame when he won the first series of Bake Off 12 years ago in 2010.
The show allowed him to quit his job as a debt collector to pursue baking full-time.
His Instagram page has a whopping 444,000 followers, where he earns £1,740.04 per post, according to National World.
“When the final aired, I remember people applauding the idea that a man could win a baking show,” he wrote in The Telegraph in 2016.
Edd has also become a prolific food writer and has published six cookbooks. The most recent, “Small Batch Bakes: Baking Cakes, Cookies, Bars and Buns for One to Six People,” was released this year.
His first book is thought to have sold for £150,000 and his two subsequent publications grossed £100,000, of which he is thought to have made £37,500 at the time.
Edd, who was famously rejected from his local catering school before his GBBO gig, also writes about baking for magazines, works as a private chef and gives cooking demonstrations around the world.
From 2010 to 2014 he had a successful stint as a resident baker on ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show, ran a pop-up bakery in Fortnum & Mason and ran other baking courses.
Rahul Mandal – Series 9

Rahul Mandal, 35, won the ninth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2018.
According to National World, he has 411,000 followers on his Instagram page and earns £1,649.65 per post.
Even after his victory, he returned to his day job as a nuclear research scientist at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Department at the University of Sheffield.
As an ambassador, Mandal said he wants to inspire as many children as possible to pursue a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and regularly holds talks with young people to help them navigate their chosen career path.
However, Rahul baked a record-breaking cake, becoming the first to manage to mix a hundred different ingredients in one.
Each ingredient came from a different country around the world and made the cake look like suitcases stacked on top of each other with a globe on top – over a meter high and weighing over 50kg.
Giuseppe Dell’Anno – Series 12

Italian engineer Giuseppe Dell’Anno, 47, won the twelfth GBBO series in 2021.
According to National World, he earns £1,732.22 per post on Instagram, where he has a following of 261,000.
An engineer by training, Guiseppe is the second PhD doctor to win the show after 2018 winner Rahul Mandal.
Unlike Rahul, the PhD scientist still chooses to capitalize on his skills, having released two cookbooks with Waterstones since his achievement: Giuseppe’s Easy Bakes: Sweet Italian Treats and Giuseppe’s Italian Bakes – a tribute to his inheritance.
Peter Sawkins – Series 11

David Atherton – Series 10

For every post he sends to his 156,000 followers on his Instagram account Nomad Baker David, he earns £650.81, according to National World.
Atherton wrote a bi-weekly healthy cooking column for The Guardian called Fit Food with David Atherton and appeared as a guest chef on children’s show Blue Peter.
He has written four cookbooks; My first cookbook, my first baking book, my first green cookbook and Good to Eat.
Sophie Faldo – Series 8
From army veteran to amateur baker, since her win in 2017, Sophie now owns a luxury bespoke cake shop called Sophie Faldo Couture Cakes and also dabbles in presentation and recipe writing
Sophie Faldo, 39, was named Britain’s best amateur baker on the eighth series of Bake Off in 2017.
Sophie is an Afghanistan veteran who only discovered her love of baking after quitting her job as an army officer – although her boyfriend had to convince her to apply for the Great British Bake Off.
According to National World, the former British Army officer has over 45,000 Instagram followers and earns £316.15 per post.
She now owns a luxury bespoke cake shop called Sophie Faldo Couture Cakes and has been involved in presentations, professional baking and recipe writing since her success.
Frances Quinn – Series 4

Frances Quinn, 41, won the fourth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2013.
Growing up in a market town in Leicestershire, the season four winner was a clothing designer before swapping his creative career for another.
She has over 77,000 followers on her Instagram, also called Frances Quinn, where she earns £454.57 per post, National World reports.
After winning the show, she wrote a book called “Quintessential Baking” and now creates custom cakes for events. She also runs a successful food blog whose work has appeared in Vogue and other publications.
In 2020, Quinn returned to Market Harborough for lockdown – where she was banned from visiting a Waitrose restaurant after trying to steal flour and eggs – and was forced to hand over the baked goods to the police.
Nancy Birtwhistle – Series 5

Nancy Birtwhistle, 68, took home the Bake Off crown in 2014 after winning the fifth series.
It surprised everyone when the retired GP training manager from Hull won – after previously being rejected from the show for baking bread that wasn’t up to standard.
Nancy currently has 390,000 followers on Instagram, where she reportedly earns £815.91 for each post.
Since winning the show, she has taught cake judging in schools and classes and exhibited her baked goods at trade shows across the country.
She has written for The Telegraph and her book Sizzle & Drizzle: Tips for a modern day home-maker was published in October 2019, five years after her huge success.
Birtwhistle also publishes recipes and features her garden, chickens and guinea fowl on her official website and has also published a cookbook called Sizzle and Drizzle.
Syabira Yusoff – Series 13
Incumbent: Syabira won the 2022 GBBO series and currently has a profile on private cooking site Yhangry, where she charges a minimum of £1,000 per event and has been hired for five so far
Syabira Yusoff, 33, is the current reigning champion of GBBO after winning the thirteenth series in 2022.
Yusoff is also a scientist and moved from Malaysia to the UK in 2013 to begin her PhD research.
She now lives with her boyfriend Bradley, has incorporated her work in biology into her baking and once produced a phenomenal strand of DNA for the judges in her showstopper challenge in the semi-finals.
Although she was officially crowned Britain’s best baker this year, fans of the show might be surprised to learn that Syabira has only been working with cakes and pastries for five years, having first tried her hand at baking in 2017.
Since announcing her big win, King’s College London has been paying tribute to its star bakery research associate – and announced last November that its cafes and restaurants would sell her red velvet sandwich cookies.
Although she has over 88,000 followers on Instagram, it is not reported how much she earns for each post since her achievement.
However, Syabira currently has a profile on Yhangry – a private chef hire website – where she charges at least £1,000 per event and has been hired for five so far.
