The great story with Paolo Mieli

The great story with Paolo Mieli

At the second appointment with “La Grande Storia” on Thursday, August 18 at 9:20 p.m. on Rai 3, Paolo Mieli will speak about youth in Italy in the 1950s. A generation between the years of war and the years of economic prosperity, a society characterized by a very traditionalist culture, with a family custodians of sure and immutable values, and with clearly defined roles assigned to men and women.
A society in which social differences are very pronounced: southern Italy, where there are still pockets of poverty, is characterized by migration to an industrial north, where modernity is taking hold.
Manners and customs in Italy in the 1950s, in which the Catholic Church asserted its weight and influence. The model of chastity for young women and a sexuality that should never be named.
Finally, the baby boomer generation, the children of the “economic miracle”, who will take over the public scene in Italy in the 1960s. Music, fashion, customs, rebellion against a world of adults in which young people can no longer and do not want to recognize themselves.
La Grande Storia is a program of the Rai Cultural and Educational Directorate.
