The Guardia Civil is investigating a brawl in El Ejido

The Civil Guard is investigating the death of a 48-year-old man in a shooting on the outskirts of El Ejido (Almería, population 87,500), in which two other men also suffered stab wounds. The events occurred on Friday afternoon in a neighborhood called Pozo de la Tía Manolica, south of the city of Almería, under circumstances that are still unclear. Police sources assure that there are several open questions and different hypotheses about the incident: from a dispute to a settlement to a turnaround, that is, the theft of drugs from a drug trafficking organization. After being transferred to the Poniente University Hospital, one of the injured has already been discharged while the second was admitted to the ward, health sources said. There are currently no arrests in the case.

Several witnesses reported the incident. On Friday at around 5:15 p.m. they called the emergency number 112 Andalucía and reported that there had been an attempted robbery in a building on the AL-4301 highway in the Matagorda area, in front of a warehouse near the Pozo de la Tía Manolica district. They said violence was used and several people were injured. Health services as well as local police and the Civil Guard traveled to the area, which lies south of the municipality of El Ejido and is entirely surrounded by greenhouses.

When they arrived, they found a 48-year-old man who had been injured by a gun. There was nothing they could do to save his life and he died right there. There were two other men who also suffered injuries from a knife, for which they were transferred to the Poniente University Hospital and one of them, 61 years old, was admitted to the intensive care unit. Health sources explain that he has already been taken to the ward and the other person has been discharged. The identity of the attackers is still unknown and no person has been arrested for these incidents, although sources close to the investigation assure that they are people who “committed various crimes.”

The Civil Guard has taken over the case and sources at the Armed Institute explain that several lines are still open and that different hypotheses are being considered. “Attempts are being made to clarify the circumstances of the events,” the same sources add. Investigators point to a variety of situations, from a dispute between people who were on the premises that ended in gunshots to a possible score-settling to a drug theft between gangs associated with the drug trade. In fact, the area, where there are numerous greenhouses, is the protagonist of regular actions against the cultivation of marijuana in houses and under plastic: this summer the Guardia Civil arrested 12 people and confiscated 2,000 cannabis plants, four bags and a box of flowers in the Area.
