Guatemala City, January 9 (Prensa Latina) The Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) issued 762,041 passports domestically and internationally in 2023, local media highlighted today.
Within the territory it approved 418,000 648, 54.9 percent of the total, in the United States 339,000 848 (44.6) and in the rest of the world, which includes 39 nations, three thousand 545 (0.5 percent), it said Diario de Centroamérica.
761,118 of the amounts spent this year are ordinary amounts (99.9 percent), the rest, diplomatic and official, were determined based on information from the IGM.
The printing of the personal travel document “will be carried out in the seven headquarters throughout the Republic, as well as in 11 authorized consulates,” the company described.
This will allow attention to reach all Guatemalans living in different places on the planet and encourage regular migration, he assured.
The supplies also enable nationals outside the country to have the necessary documentation to fulfill their rights and obligations abroad, he said.
The IGM authorities reiterated their commitment to the Chapina population locally and beyond the borders, guaranteeing the timely issuance of passports.
They recommended that interested parties have the option of processing these with a validity of 10 years at a price of 85 dollars or the equivalent in quetzals.
Official data estimates there are around three million Chapin migrants, 1.3 million living in the United States in 2020, 44 percent more than in 2013, but more than half of them have irregular status.
