GMC Hummer EV owners will soon be able to lift their 9,000-pound vehicle almost an extra six inches in the air thanks to a simple software update. In the coming weeks, GMC will be adding a new “Extract Mode” to all First Edition models of the all-electric pickup truck, allowing drivers to elevate their vehicle to avoid off-road obstacles. Essentially, Extraction mode allows drivers to elevate their vehicle so they can avoid obstacles in off-road terrain.

As fun as the feature sounds, drivers should note that suspension mode can only be used at low speeds. In addition, frequent use of the function will result in your vehicle having to cool down before it is released again. Overall, Extract Mode allows for 15.9 inches of ground clearance for the vehicle, giving it an edge over other off-road vehicles like the Rivian R1T, Ram TRX, F150 Raptor, and Bronco Raptor. Watch the video below to preview Extraction mode in action.

Unfortunately, only a handful of GMC Hummer EV owners can actually try the feature. As Electrek notes, demand for the Hummer has far exceeded GMC’s expectations, and the automaker is struggling to ramp up production. Just one Hummer EV was delivered last year, and the automaker has received over 65,000 reservations for its Hummer EV pickups and SUVs. If you’re looking for a first edition pickup truck, you’re out of luck: reservations for the approximately $110,000 vehicle are full. And if you choose a slightly cheaper model, you may have to wait two years.
