The illegal macro party that took place in Fuente Álamo (Murcia) under the name Big Fucking Party 2024 ended this Friday after five days of continuous celebration. During the lunch break, the last remaining stage was dismantled within the city speed track, which has been closed for years and has been occupied by thousands of people since last Saturday. The rave, which took place last year in a very similar form on the same dates in La Peza (Granada), ended a few days before Epiphany, when it was supposed to end. The end of the party took place in an organized manner and in compliance with security measures, although the mayor of Fuente Álamo, Juana María Martínez (PP), has warned that the event cannot be considered over while there are still participants at the venue until the damage is done has not been identified or the waste resulting from the party has not been removed.
According to the government delegation in the region, the celebration had little impact on the towns in the region and no major incidents occurred, but resulted in a total of 200 administrative sanctions and one drug trafficking arrest from Murcia. The traffic police filed 57 complaints after conducting drug tests on drivers and another 14 for road safety violations. In addition, drug possession or consumption was reported 92 times and 14 complaints were processed for violations of the Road Safety Act. The local police of Fuente Álamo have also filed 20 complaints about camping in unauthorized areas.
The event began last Saturday when organizers broke down the lock that allows access to the circuit and began installing the sound equipment, stages, shops and fast food stalls that over the course of the week will become a nomadic town of 10,000 residents have formed; a parallel society with its own rules and economic system. From that moment on, the call started through messaging and social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook groups such as Teknival. Little by little, thousands of vehicles and people joined a rave whose resources, organizational skills and use of materials are in no way inferior to a festival managed by an organizer with large stages, powerful and high-quality sound and a variety of food trucks selling homemade crepes, Pizzas or hamburgers. None of the participants interviewed provided any information identifying the organizers.
Although participants gave up a bit before Epiphany, as expected after the precedent of the Big Fucking Party 2023 – extended until January 6th – there were five days of non-stop celebration. Almost half of the participants came from other countries – especially France, Italy and Germany – and traveled in motorhomes. Some came to make the most of their vacation, and others were nomads, moving from party to party, claiming that this was a completely legitimate “culture” and “way of life.”

The Civil Guard's strategy in this situation was one of attrition rather than shock. On Wednesday, the government delegation ruled out an eviction to avoid greater evils and decided to prevent the return of all vehicles that left the site to ensure safety on the streets and reduce the volume of the party. As a result, the rave lost momentum and this Thursday six of the seven stages were already transported away in the organizers' trucks. Additionally, half of the vehicles left the venue, suggesting the party may end earlier than planned.
Although the music could be heard for several kilometers, the location was strategically chosen by the organizers and the macro party had little impact on the normality of the surrounding places. The most populated municipality (17,589), Fuente Álamo, is 13 kilometers from the site and its citizens agreed that they would not look unfavorably on the festival's celebrations as long as they did not leave trash behind.

The Big Fucking Party 2024 was also not free from political disputes. The regional director of Vox, José Ángel Antelo, called for the event to be disbanded from the start. Although the duration of the rave was slightly shorter than last year, most participants agreed that it was a very positive experience and expressed their willingness to repeat it next year. It is therefore expected that there will be a new edition of the Big Fucking Party in 2025. Dates and name of the event are predictable. But it takes a year to know where it will take place.
