Operations at the Imperial Cinema have been suspended since January 31 to allow managers to focus on restoration and renovation projects for the heritage building.

This information, published by La Presse on Monday morning, was confirmed by the spokesman for the institution's board, Benoit Clermont, in an email to the Journal.
Recall that Mr Clermont announced last December that the Imperial Cinema might have to close its doors at the end of January if it did not receive major financial support from the Federal Government for its renovation and restoration work.
By email, Mr. Clermont told the Journal on Monday that “negotiations with Ottawa are going well.”
The facility's board is asking Ottawa to provide funding equal to the provincial government's allocation, about $5.6 million.
If activities at the Cinéma Impérial are temporarily suspended, several events are planned there at the end of February as part of the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma.
