The Incredible Curse by Erik Haula

The New Jersey Devils’ season ended tragically Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. It’s becoming a habit for Erik Haula, having been sent on vacation by the Canes three years in a row.

The amazing thing is that it happened with three different teams. The Finn has had bad luck with the club since briefly wearing the Hurricanes shirt in 2019/20.

In the 2021–2022 season, the attacker wore the colors of the Boston Bruins and Carolina had eliminated them in the first round in seven games. Last year, Haula played for the Nashville Predators. In the middle of the midsection modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he saw his team defeated by the Hurricanes in six games.

Some players are unlucky during the Spring Tournament. Corey Perry, for example, made it to the Stanley Cup finals with three different teams in 2020, 2021 and 2022 without ever winning. Every time the veteran couldn’t help the Dallas Stars, the Montreal Canadiens or the Tampa Bay Lightning to win.

Haula has made the playoffs nine of the ten years since joining the National League. Since he’s going to be a free agent this summer, why not work with Rod Brind’Amour’s squad to ward off bad luck?
