The Indian state remains in control of the outbreak of the Nipah virus

Despite the lack of new infections, the number of people included in the contact list of the four patients confirmed to have the deadly disease rose to 1,777, according to All India Radio news.

So far, health workers have visited more than 22,000 households as part of their field study.

Meanwhile, state Health Minister Veena George assured that there was improvement among Nipah virus patients, including the nine-year-old minor who was on a pulmonary ventilator.

He added that strict surveillance will be maintained in Kozhikode for 42 days from the appearance of the last case due to the incubation period of the virus, as per the health protocols.

On the other hand, a team of experts from the Livestock Department of the Center in Kozhikode is scheduled to visit the affected areas along with doctors and scientists from the State Institute of Animal Diseases and the University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences from Kerala tomorrow, Monday.

Members of the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council of Medical Research are also conducting their own investigations in the affected area.

The State Forest Department has formed a special committee to ensure better coordination between scientists and doctors and provide expert advice on bats.

In neighboring Kannur, the district disaster management committee asked people to avoid public events in areas bordering Kozhikode and visit hospitals as much as possible.

Like Kozhikode, the administration has made mask mandatory in all hospitals in Kannur district.

It was also learned that the police have registered a case for spreading false information about the viral infection on social media and another case for conducting a sports competition in Kinalur, violating the protocols established to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus have been determined.
