According to a new rumor, Apple is using larger batteries for the iPhone 15 series. This is intended to allow greater autonomy provided the brand does not increase the consumption of its smartphones.

The launch of the iPhone 15s is fast approaching, and with it Apple’s long-awaited switch to USB-C in its smartphones. The devices are gradually revealed over the rumours. The latest comes from ITHome, relayed by 9to5Mac, and claims to reveal the capacity of the batteries in the new range.

Up to 18% more battery

Here’s what the iPhone 15 would offer as a battery.

  • iPhone 15: 3877mAh (18% more);
  • iPhone 15 Plus: 4912mAh (13.6% more);
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 3650mAh (14.1% more);
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4852mAh (10.9% more).

As we can see, it’s a significant increase in battery capacity that we’d be entitled to with these new iPhones. In the case of the iPhone 15 Plus, we would even approach a record capacity of 5000 mAh, although Apple has always been the brand that offered the least in this component.

We also see that Apple would stick to the logic of offering larger capacities in the cheapest iPhones, probably for reasons of volume occupied in the case. Where “Pro” iPhones need space for additional components.

How about gaining autonomy?

Will this battery gain translate into additional range? It is difficult to say for sure at this point in time, as it also depends on the consumption of the smartphone.

If Apple surprises us with new components or new features for iOS that would consume more, then the autonomy will be at the level of the iPhone 14. However, rumors do not go that way and as it stands we can well imagine that the gain in autonomy will be significant. Especially since the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max should benefit from an Apple A17 chip, which is engraved in 3 nm for the first time and thus consumes less.

If one admits that Apple makes the decision to both increase the battery and reduce consumption, then we would be moving towards sacred monsters of autonomy. Coupled with a move to USB-C, which could lead to faster charging than Lightning, the iPhone 15 could have real arguments to make its mark this year.
