São Paulo According to information from the Portal agency, 250 Palestinians were killed and 500 injured in the Israeli army's attacks on Gaza in the last 24 hours. Since the conflict began on October 7, 20,674 people have been killed and 54,536 injured. More than 70% of the victims are women and children.

In the early hours of Christmas, more than 40 people were killed in a single bomb attack on the southern Palestinian town of Khan Younis. Despite the Christmas celebrations, Israeli warplanes and artillery concentrated their attacks on the center of the Gaza Strip.

The day before, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that about 70 people died and dozens were injured in Israeli bombings at the Al Maghazi camp in the center of the Gaza Strip.

Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al Qudra said the Israeli attack had “destroyed several houses” and warned that the number of victims could rise given the large number of families living in the area.

Ten family members died in another Israeli attack in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Palestinian territory on Saturday, according to the Palestinian Health Authority.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was “paying a heavy price for the war,” referring to the 156 soldiers who have died since the ground offensive in Gaza began.

According to the United Nations, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is under complete siege by Israel, is catastrophic. Nearly 80% of the Palestinian territory's 2.4 million residents have left their homes because of the fighting.

The organization also warns that most hospitals are out of service and the population faces high levels of food insecurity.

“The destruction of the health system in the Gaza Strip is a tragedy,” lamented World Health Organization (WHO) Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
