The anti-aircraft system “successfully intercepted a shot from the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli army said in a statement to the press just over an hour before the expiration of this potentially extendable ceasefire.

Witnesses reported to AFP about intensive flights by military aircraft and drones in the northwestern areas of Gaza City. The rocket attack has not yet been claimed.

When contacted by AFP, the Israeli army said this was the second rocket attack since the ceasefire began on November 24, the first taking place just minutes after this breach without derailing it.

The ceasefire, which has already been extended twice since it came into effect on November 24, ended seven weeks of devastating Israeli bombing raids on the besieged Palestinian territory in retaliation for Hamas’s bloody October 7 attack on Israeli soil.
