The Israeli military command announced this Tuesday (26) a further expansion of operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
81 days of war have passed since Hamas' terrorist attack against Israeli civilians on October 7th.
This Tuesday, the head of the Israeli army stated that the war is necessary and is being fought in a complex area, that the objectives are not easy and that the conflict will continue for many months.
Echoing what the Israeli prime minister said Monday during a visit to his troops fighting in Gaza: “Ignore anyone who talks about a stop. We don't stop. The war will last until the end.”
In the last 24 hours, Israeli defense forces have bombed more than a hundred targets in Gaza, including the southernmost city of Khan Yunis. And in Rafah, on the border with Egypt, where humanitarian aid reaches Gaza and where many Palestinians seek refuge, like Abir and Mahmoud, who fled with their children from the attacks in Gaza City.
The head of UN humanitarian operations in the region said the area had become a “human chessboard” with thousands of people constantly having to move.
Gemma Connell said the areas designated “safe” by Israel were already virtually full. And there is no guarantee that they are actually safe.
According to Hamas, 241 Palestinians were killed in Israeli offensives in the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours.
This Tuesday, national security officials at the White House hosted one of the top members of Israel's war cabinet to discuss the next phase of the conflict.
The United States, its most important ally, is pushing for more precise, lowintensity operations that will ensure the protection of civilians and an end to the conflict within weeks. Not in months, as the Israelis believe is necessary.
