“Someone has to be elegant in this story,” said Profi; The broadcaster is facing government funding cuts and demonetisation

Journalist Adalberto Piotto said on social media on Friday (September 15, 2023) that he was fired from Jovem Pan. The professional joins a series of other layoffs announced by the broadcaster in recent weeks, which faces demonetization in videos published on YouTube and a decline in government advertising investments.

“Guys, someone has to be elegant in this story. Let it be me, I insist. Yes, I no longer work at “Jovem Pan”. I accepted the termination of the contract with composure and reciprocity,” wrote Piotto in X (formerly Twitter).

The journalist had been with the station since 2022, when he took over “Entrelinhas,” a debate show on various topics. Other names before him also left the company two weeks ago. These were the cases of the commentator Diogo Schelp, the editorinchief Virgílio Dias and the director of the digital sector Andrezza Pugliesi.

Jovem Pan, owned by businessman Antônio Augusto Amaral de Carvalho Filho, has lost reach on YouTube due to misinformation on the platform.

In June, the MPF (Federal Ministry of Public Law) asked the court to cancel the subsidies that allow the radio station Jovem Pan to operate on June 27, arguing that the radio spreads misinformation and content that attacks democracy.

If the funding ceases, the station will no longer be able to be broadcast on the radio. However, broadcasting on YouTube or television remains unchanged.

Commenting on the MPF’s request, Abert (Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters) said that he considers the filed ACP (public civil action) “very worrying”. According to the organization, the revocation of a broadcasting license is an “extreme, serious and unprecedented” measure.

“The freedom of broadcasters to program is fundamental to the free exercise of journalism and to the existence of pluralism of opinion, which must always be preserved,” he told Abert.
