The jury found attorney Alex Murdaugh guilty of the murders

Twelve men and women with no mercy, no time to lose. It took a jury less than three hours to rule on Alex Murdaugh’s guilt in the double murder of his wife and son, the most serious of the charges facing the disgraced ex-lawyer, member of a dynastic legal system is that for a century had defined Lowcountry life on the South Carolina-Georgia border.

Murdaugh, who listened to his verdict with a devastated expression but not losing his composure, was also found guilty of two counts of possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime. The murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh occurred on June 7, 2021 on the family estate, a vast hunting and fishing estate called Mosel.

Now it remains to be known how high the judge’s verdict is, who has announced that he has no time to lose either: his reading is scheduled for tomorrow. Prosecutors have asked for life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The minimum sentence is 30 years, the death penalty is excluded.

After being convicted of the most serious crimes he has faced, Murdaugh’s court sentence is far from over. He still faces 99 counts of alleged financial crimes, including defrauding his partners and clients at the powerful law firm where he worked. The fraud account amounts to nine million dollars, around 8.3 million euros.
