The Spanish monarch landed at Las Américas Airport at 18:30 (14:30 GMT) accompanied by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and was met at the foot of the runway by the Deputy Minister for Consular and Immigration Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Opinio Antonio Diaz.
They also welcomed Felipe VI, the Dominican Ambassador to Spain, Juan Bolívar Díaz, and the Spanish Diplomatic Representative in the Dominican Republic, Antonio Pérez-Hernández.
The King of Spain will have an intense schedule of activities tomorrow ahead of the official opening of the summit at the colonial fortress of Ozama, the first permanent military structure in America.
In the early hours of the morning he will meet with the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and visit the Dominican President, Luis Abinader, host of the regional meeting, at the National Palace.
Later, the King will hold an audience with a representative of participants of the Ibero-American Summit of Young Leaders at the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo.
At the same venue, he will participate in an act on the Ibero-American Disability Rights Program: “Towards a Just and Inclusive Transition in Ibero-America: A Firm Commitment to Leaving No One Behind.”
The Presidents of the Dominican Republic, Argentina (Alberto Fernández), Uruguay and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, as well as the heads of the National Organization for the Blind (ONCE) are expected to attend the event. from Spain.
Later, at the port of Sansouci in the Dominican capital, Felipe VI will address the conclusion of the XIV business meeting in the region, together with the Ibero-American Secretary General, the Chilean Andrés Allamand, and Luis Abinader.
After the official opening of the summit at Ozama Fortress, the day will end with a dinner for the heads of state and government at the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Saturday 25th, the day when he will develop the central part of the meeting, the Spanish monarch will start the day with a breakfast with Central American heads of state together with Spanish President Pedro Sánchez.
After that, the Congress Center of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Relations will hold the morning and afternoon plenary sessions.
After the family photo and the official conclusion of the summit, the monarch will hold a bilateral meeting with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves before flying back to Spain.
