The King orders Sanchez to “seek a legislative government”

King Felipe VI of Spain has tasked socialist leader Pedro Sanchez with forming a new government. Congress President Francina Armengol announced this after her reception by the monarch. “My goal is to create a legislative government: I will present a project of stability and progress for the young people, the workers, the elderly and the women of this country,” Sanchez said at the end of his conversation with the king. “We believe in the progress of stable work and decent wages as well as in protecting the planet.”

“I accept this role,” he added, “with great honor and a great sense of responsibility: the Spaniards demanded with their votes the formation of a government and there were two hypotheses: one from the PP with Abascal and a progressive one. Feijòo’s failed mandate has shown that a progressive government is necessary.”

“Tomorrow itself,” he assured, “I will establish contacts with Sumar to create the majority. Then, to Granada, with the others.”

Feijòo is skeptical that Sanchez does not have the votes to create a majority

“I told the king that I will absolutely respect any of his decisions, whatever they may be: I am referring to the possibility that he reappoints Sánchez. As for me, in my attempt I maintained my dignity and loyalty to the king.” But now the candidate has to say how many supporters he has, and as far as I know Sanchez doesn’t have a majority, in fact he has fewer votes than before Month.” The leader of the PP, Alberto Nunez Feijòo, said this after being received by the King, shortly before Felipe VI. Sánchez was entrusted with the task.
