A little over three years after the release of The Last of Us Part 2, Naughty Dog’s game is already entitled to a remaster. Improved graphics and new game modes are coming to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, expected to arrive on PS5 on January 19, 2024.
Logically, The Last of Us Part 2 was voted Game of the Year 2020 at the Game Awards ceremony and, like its predecessor, did not have to wait long for the remastered version. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be available exclusively for PS5 on January 19, 2024. Note: If you already own the original version, you can access this remastered version for just €10.
The idea of this remaster is initially to offer a completely next-gen version and thus improve the graphics and technology. We are therefore entitled to native 4K in Fidelity mode, improved textures, an unlocked refresh rate for VRR-compatible TVs and significantly faster loading times.
But unlike what we experienced in The Last of Us Part 1, this version is not limited to technical improvements, but also offers new cosmetic elements, but above all new game modes. For example, one mode will be dedicated to speedrunning, another will allow you to play the guitar without limits. Two additional game modes are particularly anticipated: one provides access to levels that were cleared before the game’s release, and the other, called “No Return,” offers a roguelite-style survival adventure.
The lost levels
In this new game mode you can discover the first versions of three levels originally planned in The Last of Us Part 2: the sewers, Jackson’s party and the boar hunt. But in addition to browsing, we can also benefit from several hours of new comments from the developers to learn more about the game’s development.
No return to roguelite mode
This new game mode allows you to choose a character you want to play, including many characters that have never been playable in the series such as Dina, Jesse, Lev or even Tommy. Each character offers their own characteristics, allowing for many different gameplay experiences in this new mode.
To complete No Return mode, you must survive a series of random battles, including merciless bosses, all in iconic locations from the series. Roguelite requires that each death returns you to the beginning of the adventure, but you can benefit from the weapon and skill upgrades restored in previous runs.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be available for PS5 on January 19, 2024.
