When she arrived at Blakes, the lawyer wanted to return to her private practice.
” I know Alain Massicotte, partner at Blakes for several years. He is a leading authority on infrastructure. He introduced me to this practice that I love so much. I’m excited to join Blakes and continue working on projects that shape our society,” she says.
Before joining the firm, Me Imbleau-Chagnon worked at Stikeman Elliott, Allen & Overy and the Société québécoise des Infrastructures.
She worked at Ivanhoé Cambridge as Vice President of Legal Affairs for more than five years.
“I had the chance to work on large international transactions for an institutional fund… There aren’t many places in Montreal where you can get such a diverse experience. “It wasn’t an easy decision to leave this position, I have to admit,” she says.
A lawyer who likes to get involved
Claudie Imbleau-Chagnon enjoys being involved in her community. She served as president of the board of the YMCA Foundation of Quebec for almost four years and was also a consultant for the NDG cinema.
Today she is president of the board of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC).
“Community engagement is part of my DNA. I also believe that Blakes chose me because of my diverse commitments,” she emphasizes.
According to the lawyer, membership on the MAC board allows us to unite and promote the importance of art in society.
“I’m still very involved with the YMCAs. They have socio-community programs and help vulnerable people. They are incredible, they really seem magical,” she adds.
A passion for law… and projects
Throughout his career, Me Imbleau-Chagnon has represented governments, entrepreneurs and lenders on development projects in various sectors.
Their projects include hospitals, energy, transportation, rail maintenance, detention centers, water systems, entertainment venues and more.
The lawyer has national and international experience and has been involved in numerous cross-border business transactions in the USA, Brazil, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Before studying law, the lawyer wanted to become a doctor.
“By participating in hospital projects, I was able to combine my two interests, medicine and law. I think I have chosen the right career. It’s always varied and very enriching,” she emphasizes.
Outside the law, the lawyer wants to see her three children grow up healthy. She loves reading, traveling, playing sports, but most of all learning.
“Anyone who knows me knows how curious I am by nature. I like discovering things I don’t know and getting involved in different projects,” she concludes.
