Gebeyehu announced on his social media account X that they had raised the role of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in facilitating the talks.
“We agree on the need for a sustainable ceasefire with the aim of alleviating the humanitarian situation and creating an enabling environment for a final political solution,” he added in the post.
On the other hand, La Nation newspaper confirmed that Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh will receive Al-Burhan that day, who will pay an official working visit to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.
Al-Burhan’s agenda will be dominated by a summit with Guelleh, the latter in the IGAD presidency.
The topics to be discussed will be the ongoing conflict in Khartoum and the ways and means that will enable the neighboring country to regain peace, stability and national harmony.
In addition, other issues of common, regional, continental and international interest will also be discussed.
Under the auspices of Guelleh at the helm of the African regional unit, Djibouti stands out for its continued commitment to resolving the Sudan crisis. In search of a peaceful solution, he used all diplomatic channels, including bilateral ones, to promote peace in Sudan since the beginning of the conflict.
The clashes led by Al-Burhan and his former strongman Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), began on April 15 in this African country.
Hostilities broke out after tensions rose over the integration of the RSF into the regular army. This was a key condition of an agreement signed in December to resume the transition and form a new civilian government.
Both soldiers were protagonists of the 2019 coup against President Omar Al-Bashir and another in October 2021 that overthrew then-unity Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.
