The locations of the film “The Big Day” with Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo

The inseparable comedy trio Aldo, John and James returns to cinemas with a new adventure. The film, titled “The Big Day”, which hits theaters on December 22nd, won’t be the classic cinepanettone but will certainly put you in a good mood with the gags and misadventures that the three protagonists will have to face.

We don’t want to spoil you, we’re just assuming two friends are involved, a wedding — namely, the big day with celebrations spanning three days, a cardinal to celebrate the wedding, and a luncheon of fine wines and starred chefs — and a mood breaker.

However, we can anticipate that a large part of the film was shot in a beautiful place that is the envy of the whole world: the Lake Como. As it was a wedding, one of the most beautiful historical buildings on the lake in one of the most fascinating villages was chosen: Villa Melzi in Bellagio.

Villa Melzi d’Eril in Bellagio

Located on the west coast of Lake Como, the villa is still inhabited and can therefore only be visited in certain parts. In the vicinity of this charming building you can visit, among other things small museum that houses numerous archaeological finds, paintings and antique ceramics. However, there is an opportunity to visit the beautiful lush garden.

The vast green space of Villa Melzi houses finds of great artistic and historical value, such as the Egyptian statues that adorn the garden or the very ancient urns of Etruscan origin. The garden even houses a Venetian gondola that arrived here in Bellagio at the behest of Napoleon, and a charming neoclassical chapel.

The entire park is dotted with statues, busts and works from different eras that mingle with the gardens and plants in an atmosphere of pure magic.

The charm of Bellagio

Villa Melzi is just one of the many gems that Bellagio has to offer that make this village an open-air setting. Another magnificent palace is also famous here: Villa Serbelloni. It is a 1600’s villa built on the ruins of a previous castle that was destroyed. Today it is a beautiful luxury hotel.

The outer part, open to tourists, is characterized by charming and well-kept gardens where you can admire plants of all kinds while strolling peacefully through the maze of small paths.

Bellagio is famous for its truly exclusive geographical position: the village is located at the northern end of the Lariano Triangle, right where the two arms of Lake Como divide. This enchanting town, overlooked by the Alps, is one of the most visited in the Como region.

Bellagio is literally adored by foreigners who are convinced they will be catapulted into a living postcard. They love to walk between them cobbled streets who climb the hill, sit at the tables along the lake and admire the landscape with a good glass of wine or get on one of the many boats that take tourists on tours of the lake.

The Center Lake Tour starts in Bellagio, a 2-hour excursion that takes you to the most beautiful spots in the middle of the lake, including Menaggio, Varenna, San Giovanni (part of Bellagio), Tremezzo and Lenno. Those who wish to explore the village on foot can join a guided tour to discover the Como area.
