This Thursday the 1st, one of the greatest fantasy sagas of all time receives another chapter with the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video. The series promises to perfectly recreate and expand upon the Middleearth that the general public first saw in the awardwinning trilogy directed by Peter Jackson two decades ago.
Fans of the old ones will find characters already sanctified in the films, but no one needs to rush to watch the three films as the new series will take place thousands of years before Frodo’s journey to destroy the One Ring. While The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien’s first published titles about Middleearth, are set at the end of the Third Age, the events depicted in The Rings of Power take place in the Safe Age.
Although it’s already confirmed that the series will play around with the timeline set by the British author for his universe by merging certain key events related to the books for narrative purposes, the gap between stories could be as much as 5,000 years.
This number may startle those unfamiliar with Tolkien’s work, but it is this level of world building and context with so much detail and tremendous depth in the creation of races, kingdoms, wars and even languages that this franchise of the imaginations to Geliebt has been doing something so special for over eighty years.
If The Lord of the Rings depicts the socalled War of the Ring, when Gandalf united men, elves and dwarves to finally defeat the great villain Sauron, works like The Silmarillion describe the creation of the world and the first The Age.
And essentially between these two eras, “The Rings of Power” will tell its story, presenting events and places essential to the entire franchise, such as the island of Númenor, the greatest kingdom of men, and the forges of said rings of Eleven Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards).
