Ndamukong Suh’s mother wanted him to stay in retirement. He has 19-month-old twins who sure wanted dad to stay home.

Suh doesn’t need the money as he has earned more than $166 million in his career.

So why come back now, at 35 with nothing left to prove?

“Championships. That drives me,” Suh replied simply.

He signed a one-year contract with the Eagles this week, turning down other offers to sign with a team that has a good chance of reaching the Super Bowl if they lose.

“I’m not going to sit here and lie to you and say I played for some old team,” Suh said of MediaNews Group’s Bob Grotz. “I want the opportunity to earn a ring and celebrate that with my family and especially my teammates and the people I’ve done it with. As for me, I’ve only been able to get amazing accolades from an individual play standpoint, but at this particular time in my life, it’s more than that.”

Suh won his first ring of 2020 with the Bucs defeating the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

He trained with his new team for the first time on Friday and Nick Sirianni offered his non-binding comment on Suh’s availability for this week. Suh said he hopes to play but it’s up to the coaches.
