Venezuela’s government yesterday celebrated the adoption of a resolution tabled by the Non-Aligned Movement before the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). the “negative impact” of international sanctions on citizens.

Chavista Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia celebrated the resolution via his Twitter account, where he expressed his satisfaction at the “strong rejection” of the sanctions by the “large majority” of Council members. “We welcome the NAM resolution on the negative effects of unilateral coercive measures on the perception of human rights, which was adopted by a large majority in the UN Human Rights Council with 27 yes votes,” wrote the Chancellor.

He also insisted that the sanctions were a “criminal scourge” and that their imposition violated the principles of international law and the UN Charter. “We are the undisputed majority.
