“The Masked Singer” Season 7 Episode 6: Miss Teddy, unmasked armadillo

SPOILERS ALERT: Don’t read any further if you haven’t watched Season 7 Episode 6 of The Masked Singer, The Double Mask-Off – Round 2 Finals, which aired April 13 on Fox.

The mystery of presenter Nick Cannon’s missing shirt wasn’t solved on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” but the show sent another celebrity in disguise into its final round. That meant two more contestants were eliminated in a double exit on this week’s show: Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman as the armadillo and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy.

Armadillo aka Chapman was voted out after singing the traditional anthem “Amazing Grace”. Previous songs he has performed include Johnny Rivers’ “Secret Agent Man” and the Bobby Fuller Four’s “I Fought the Law.”

Holliday sang “Mercy” by Duffy as Miss Teddy. Before that, she performed Taylor Dayne’s Tell It to My Heart and Demi Lovato’s Tell Me You Love Me.

“This could be the biggest surprise in ‘Masked Singer’ history,” panelist Ken Jeong said of Miss Teddy’s exit.

For Armadillo, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Nicole Scherzinger did everything right with Dog the Bounty Hunter. Robin Thicke thought it was Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ken Jeong threw out Al Pacino – to the laughter of the audience and the other panelists. Guest panelist Leslie Jordan thought it was Gary Busey.

For Miss Teddy, Nicole Scherzinger got it right with Jennifer Holliday, and guest panelist Leslie Jordan agreed. Ken Jeong suspected Yolanda Adams. Robin Thicke thought it was gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg went with Gloria Gaynor.

(Previous guesses for Armadillo have included Chuck Norris, Erik Estrada, Vin Diesel, Gary Busey, Jay Leno, William H. Macy, Tommy Lee Jones and Al Pacino. Past guesses for Miss Teddy have included Lauryn Hill, Vanessa Williams, Jill Scott, CeCe Winans , CeCe Peniston, Loretta Devine, Gloria Gaynor, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, and Mavis Staples.)

Last week’s “mega clue” for Armadillo/Chapman was keys and a motorcycle while “Leader of the Pack” was playing.

“Let me paint a picture of who I used to be,” Chapman said as Armadillo during this week’s clue pack. “Even though I’m Team Good, I used to be bad. I mean, behind bars, kinda bad. I was on the fast track to roadkill. Until I received advice that shook me to the core. I was told I had the power to change my life. I just had to find my passion and my faith. So tonight is a song my mom sang to me to get me through these difficult times. My bond with her will bring me to the final. Mom, this is for you.”

Miss Teddy/Holliday’s “Mega Hint” last week was a Grammy.

“Some might say my career has been a masterpiece,” said Holliday as Miss Teddy in this week’s clue pack. “As a young teddy I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. So I followed my heart and dared. I was incredibly nervous about my first audition and got the job! And it turned out to be the only audition I ever had to do. I was an instant hit. But it wasn’t easy. I’ve had my ups and downs. I was afraid that if I didn’t use my talent, nobody would love me. But my fans have made it clear to me that this is not true. So I want to make it to the finals for them tonight to give them back the love they gave me for decades. That means everything to me.”

Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman as Armadillo and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy join the roster of unmasked celebrities, which also includes Penn and Teller as Hydra, Christie Brinkley as Lemur, Jorge Garcia as Cyclops, Jordan Mailata as Thingamabob, and Duff Goldman includes McTerrier and Joe Buck as Aries.

The final showdown featured Chapman as the armadillo, Holliday as Miss Teddy, and the still-unmasked Ringmaster performing Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” Ringmaster (“Team Good”) and Firefly (“Team Good”) are now set for the finals.

The Masked Singer entered its seventh season with 15 contestants, divided into The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly. This season’s costumes include THE GOOD: Ringmaster, Armadillo, McTerrier, Firefly, Frog Prince; THE BAD: Hydra, Ram, Jack in the Box, Cyclops, Queen Cobra; THE CUDDLY: Baby Mammoth, Thingamabob, Lemur, Space Bunny, Miss Teddy.

Season 7 contestants have a total of 112 movie appearances, 15 Grammy nominations, eight Emmy nominations, seven Super Bowl appearances, two Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, and two world records.

In another change, the show’s panelists don’t appear to be in contention for a “Golden Ear” trophy based on their first impressions of each masked cast member (which McCarthy won twice, but Scherzinger won last season) this season.

Here was the other contestant and his performance on the sixth night:

So I dared to do something completely different. And that has paid off over the past ten years. There are no clowns tonight. This ringmaster will be the center of attention in the final.”
