At the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, six athletes from Huancaí won medals in their respective disciplines. This has caused all of Peru to feel admiration for them, especially their own city of Huancayo.

Where did the money that the mayor of Huancayo gave to the medalists come from?
Cuba explained that the contributions were provided by textile entrepreneurs and traders who came together for the initiative. He added that the money was collected by Social Development Management.
“This award was not approved by the local council; “It was a procedure before private institutions,” said the mayor.
On the other hand, he pointed out that at an upcoming meeting of the local council he will announce details of the names of the companies and entrepreneurs that are part of the aid.

As the region’s press reported, the $25,000 incentive was divided as follows:
- Marcher Kimberly García León, gold in Santiago 2023, received $5,000
- Christian Pachecho Mendoza, gold in the men’s 45 km marathon, received $5,000
- Luz Mery Rojas Llanco, gold in Santiago 2023, received $5,000
- César Rodríguez, silver medalist, received $4,000
- Gladys Tejada, bronze medalist, received $3,000
- Evelin Inga, bronze medalist, received $3,000.
