This was announced by the institution in Montreal on Tuesday. Suzanne Sauvage is stepping down after 12 years at the helm of the museum. She will remain in office until November to allow the board to recruit a new person to run the facility.
“It is with great emotion that I make this decision,” Suzanne Sauvage said in a press release.
Ms. Sauvage joined the McCord Stewart Museum in March 2010 after having held a number of senior positions within the Cossette Communication Group, including President of Cossette Canada. According to the chairman of the museum’s board of directors, Ghislain Picard, under his leadership the institution has undergone a significant evolution, both in its programming and in its collections, “attracting a diverse, younger and increasingly numerous audience”.
“She has transformed the McCord Stewart Museum from one of Montreal’s best-kept secrets to one of the most important and dynamic museums in Quebec,” says Ghislain Picard.
In June 2022, Suzanne Sauvage was appointed a member of the Order of Canada. She also received the National Order of Quebec in May 2021.
