Adult Lies is a new television series based on Elena Ferrante. The novel of the same name was published in 2019 and tells the story of the young Giovanna Trada. A plot that takes place mainly in Naples, in a period very different from that of my brilliant friend. Indeed we are in the 90s.
When Giordana Marengo was cast to play the leading lady, Valeria Golino was chosen to play co-star Vittoria Trada, Giovanna’s aunt. A multifaceted, complex and contradictory character that required a lot of effort from the performer to be able to transfer it from the pages to the screen.

Valeria Golino has thrown her heart and soul into the project The Lies of Adults, the new Netflix TV series based on Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name. A title that promises international prestige, like My Brilliant Friend, which is revered in the United States.
To be able to play the role of Vittoria Trada, Valeria Golino underwent a long preparation, she told Repubblica. She also had to take speech classes to be able to speak in her own way, although the actress was born in Naples. Room for accordion lessons and studying the specific language of the female body.
Golino shared who her Vittoria is after spending months with her to know all aspects: “A very long job. I prepared the language to be used and studied the positioning of the body in space”.
He revealed the crisis he’s been experiencing in some ways since then it seemed to her that she was never ready or enough for the part. The accordion scene is two minutes long, she says, but it took her more than two months to prepare.
“I thought for a long time that Aunt Vittoria wasn’t a liar. Then I realized that this is indeed the case. I think lying is sometimes necessary. I liked being able to portray disobedience, injustice and also a liar in a woman. Politics is evident in Elena Ferrante and This series is political“.

The lying life of adults appears on Wednesday January 4 on Netflix. The plot tells the story of Giovanna Trada’s transition from childhood to adolescence and lifts the veil placed on her parents’ lives. A blanket of lies that made his family split up.
In this TV series there are two Naples. The big commoner who pretends a certain finesse. The small, proletarian one who pretends exaggerated triviality. Everything changes in the protagonist’s life after she finally meets her aunt Vittoria.
